Poultry Farming changed the life of Ms. Sunkali

Budhinada Municipality lies in Bajura, a poorest district in Nepal. Budhinanda Municipality has is linked with transportation facility only for six months in the summer season because of poor road facility in the municipality. The municipality has very limited opportunities to run any kinds of businesses. RMHSF Nepal organized 4-day start and improve your business (SIYP) training to the freed haliya households where Ms. Sunakali Kami was also participated. After the training session, she was motived to run poultry farming in the village and requested business support-up support with her business plan to the project officials. RMHSF Nepal supported her with NPR. 10,000 for starting her poultry farming and she was linked with another project supported by ILO for improving her poultry shed and also participated in 35 days poultry farming training course. She is now has become a competent business women. She has also received government rehabilitation package for construction of her house but she also took loan to complete her house.

The income from poultry farming has become a good option for her to fulfil the basic household needs and also to repay the loan which was taken during construction of her house. There is a very good market for selling meat and eggs in Budhinanda bazaar where she used to sell her eggs for NPR. 20 per piece. Now, she is earning NPR. 5,000 to 6,000 per month from poultry farming and also saving NPR. 100 per month at saving and credit cooperative as her monthly saving. Mr. Dabal Bahadur B.K. Ward member of municipality expressed that the model work is being done by the projects however the Municipality is unable to implement freed haliya friendly income generation activities.
